Mark is the director of Vision Training Ltd, a training consultancy he started in 1997 after working within the corporate sector. Mark has facilitated training within the public and private corporate sector as well as the secondary education sector mainly in the area of service excellence and delivery (although Mark has also been known to perform well as an armed offender in armed robbery training!). A chance meeting with then Executive Director of MWDI, Dame Georgina Kirby set about Mark’s current association and the delivery of MaiBiz to approximately 1500 secondary students per year throughout the country. For Mark this meant turning his back on the corporate sector to focus on developing a programme he is passionate about.

Overview
Teams of students are pitted against each other in a competition to brainstorm a creative and innovative business idea.
The team then assumes responsibilities based on the creation of a business plan.
As the target audience varies dramatically in terms of prior business knowledge, presenters spend the majority of the 3 days upskilling and refining student knowledge on subjects as diverse as:
-
Business Leadership
-
Strategic Planning
-
Finance
-
Marketing
-
Production and
-
SWOT Analysis
All topics contribute to the creation of the business plan. On the third day the learning area is transformed into an Expo Pavilion with each team setting up their expo site attractively to best promote their business to a group of expert judges -– business people in their own right. The judges follow a set criteria and reward points based on what each team presents. The outcome of the judging determines who is awarded with the Business Excellence prize. All participants are provided with certificates of participation. Leaders rewarded with their own certificate. To add value to a programme which already contributes much, we can work alongside schools to align the programme with NZQA* (*special conditions apply).
We also offer high performing Maori students the opportunity to attend an advanced business programme in Auckland held at Massey University, Albany. Our sponsor, Maori Women's Development Inc, provides all students attending a scholarship to cover all costs associated with travel, accommodation and meals.
